How This Site Earns Money

This is an independent directory of Tokyo museums. It has no named author and no byline. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means that when a reader books through one of them, this site may receive a commission from the booking platform. A booking made through an affiliate link costs the reader nothing extra: the price is the same as the price on the platform's own page. The commission is paid by the platform, not by the visitor.

Which Links Are Affiliate Links

Booking buttons and availability links on the pages of museums that sell a bookable product, including teamLab Borderless, teamLab Planets TOKYO, the Tokyo National Museum and the other ticketed venues, may route through GetYourGuide, Viator or Klook. Any such link is an affiliate link. Links to a museum's own official site, its own ticket page or its own hours page are plain informational links and earn this site nothing.

The Ghibli Museum, Mitaka is a deliberate exception. The museum bans resale of its tickets, in its own words: ticket purchase for resale is not allowed. Because of that ban, this site links the Ghibli Museum only to the channels the museum itself names, and those links earn this site nothing.

Museums That Earn This Site Nothing

Two museums are free to visit outright, the Sumo Museum and the Meguro Parasitological Museum, and two more let you into the building for nothing but charge for every exhibition, the National Art Center, Tokyo and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. These four free museums have no ticket to sell and no affiliate link, so they earn this site nothing.

A further nine museums in this directory have no affiliate product anywhere, so this site links each of them only to its own official ticket page. These are the National Museum of Western Art, the Nezu Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, the Meiji Jingu Museum, the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum, the CUPNOODLES MUSEUM Yokohama, the Tokyo Toy Museum and the Fukagawa Edo Museum. Those links also earn this site nothing.

Prices, Ratings And How They Move

Every price, rating and review count shown on this site is rendered from the live listings on GetYourGuide, Viator and Klook. These figures move with the date chosen and with currency exchange rates, so the number a reader sees when booking can differ from the number shown on this site. Door prices are the price a visitor pays at the museum's own ticket window, in Japanese yen. Product prices are shown in US dollars because that is the currency the booking platforms charge in. This site never converts one into the other itself.

GuruWalk Free Walking Tours

GuruWalk is a pay-what-you-want platform for free walking tours: a reader books a walk, joins the guide and decides at the end what to tip. On this site's free and budget pages, GuruWalk links point to real Tokyo walks, such as the Asakusa temple walks and the Shibuya and Shinjuku street tours.
